Google Announcement Live Event – 7/24/13

In our previous post “A New Tablet: Wait Or Buy Now?” I shared some news rumors about a couple of the upcoming tablets, the Google Nexus 7 and the new iPad and iPad mini. Well, it looks like Google wants to share some official news with us today about the upcoming Nexus 7, which has also been confirmed by a “coming soon” label from Best Buy’s website. Google’s venue will be live in San Francisco, and they’ll be streaming the event at 9AM PST (video embed below).

In addition to the Nexus 7 announcement we should be hearing about the latest Android operating system 4.3. We’ve also snagged a few of the specs from the Best Buy website screen grab below, and we’ll anxiously await for Google to weigh in on the updated Nexus 7’s performance.

Google Nexus 7 16gb
Google Nexus 7 32gb

Here is a bulleted list of the specs here:

  • 7-inch 1920 x 1200 display
  • 2GB DDR3LM RAM
  • 1.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro 8064
  • 5.0MP camera on the rear
  • 1.2MP camera on the front
  • WiFi N
  • Bluetooth 4.0
  • aGPS
  • microUSB 2.0 port

As you can see the price on these devices are $229 and $269 for the 16GB and 32GB version respectively. The pricing is coming in at $20 more than the first iteration, and we’re hoping that this translates into covering the costs of a higher quality product. At the very least, we’ll know more once Google makes their announcements today. I for one would like to see more of these Nexus devices in the healthcare space and I’ll be sure to be one of the few utilizing the Nexus 7 to help improve patient care and education. Of course there’s also the pure geek factor that I can’t deny.
